Adapted from Stephen King's short story, The Shawshank Redemption stands out as one of the most clever and intriguing stories of all time. This 150 minute epic film slowly unfolds and continues to get better and better as it goes on. With historic performances from Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, Shawshank never misses a beat. Its dramatic nature sets the tone throughout the movie as it constantly heats up.
Why Would It Appeal To Teens?
From personal experience, I have found that recommending Shawshank to my friends has gone incredibly well. Each time it is reported back to me as one of the greatest movies of all time. This is simply because of how good it really is. It will suck a teen's mind into the world of Andy Dufresne for 2 and a half hours, and make you never want to look away. Its plot twists and dramatic turns make it special.
Where Does It Rank?
Many recognize Shawshank as a Top 5 film of all time. IMDB even has it in their top spot in the Top 250 movies. While it didn't get recognized at first, it quickly became a national phenom as it was aired on tv for hours upon end. Winning Oscars for Best Actor and being nominated for Best Picture, The Shawshank Redemption was always classified as a high achievement in film.
